This is from a website named “Re-Elect Governor Blunt in 2008.” It doesn’t say if it is officially connected to the Blunt Campaign.
The rift between Mayor of St. Louis, Francis Slay, and the African American community has been growing lately over the controversial demotion of Fire Chief Sherman George 9African American) at the Mayor’s order.
The controversy has brought out the black clergy and voters in a unity protest against the Mayor. They are also livid with rage because of what they consider to be lack of support from Mr. Nixon, Claire McCaskill, and other white and black liberal politicians.
The following is an excerpt of Nixon’s response from St. Louis American newspaper of October 18-24, 2007:
“A spokesperson for Missouri Attorney General Jeremiah “Jay” Nixon, who is running for governor as a Democrat, took a request for a comment on Slay’s leadership ability as just another opportunity to make a campaign pitch.“Democrats are not only united, they’re energized and working harder than ever to change the direction of Missouri,” Nixon’s statement reads, which ignores the fact that half the members of his party in St. Louis are attempting to recall the Democratic mayor rather than working to elect a Democratic governor.”
“Jay Nixon has never stood up for black people. He’s never done anything positive. He’s always been a coward,” Troupe said. Read more…

This whole protest is ridiculous. One can only hope that this is not really a white vs. black issue.
I applaud Chief George for sticking to his beliefs. I hope those that those who support the Chief are personally and emotionally motivated, and not racially motivated.
Mayor Slay is the Chief’s boss. He gave him a lawful order. The Chief recognized that order and chose to ignore it. The City of St. Louis does not have a democratic government. The Mayor gives orders to the Chief. The Chief obeys those orders, or risks losing his job.
Those that are calling for removal of the Mayor must not have a boss to answer to. If they do, tell them to refuse to comply with the next order their boss gives to them and see if they still keep their position, let alone their job.
