October 3rd, 2007 by mopns · No Comments

Missouri  Supreme Court Chief Justice Laura Denvir Stith

Saint Louis University School of Law hosted a lively debate Monday on Missouri’s non-partisan court plan and how judges are selected in Missouri.

Former Governor Bob Holden and Missouri Bar Vice-President Thomas Burke spoke in favor of the current system for selection of judges, while St. Louis attorney William Placke joined Thomas Walsh in speaking against the current plan. The panelists discussed the “non-partisan court plan” in light of the most recent appointment to the Missouri Supreme Court

The debate was sponsored by the Law School’s Public Interest Law Group and the Federalist Society, two student organizations.

Special thanks goes to reader Jim Byrne who was invited to the debate and videotaped it for us. Jim has written extensively on court issues. You can click HERE to view all eight videos at Jim’s YouTube page.
