Sam Hodge was featured on the Huffington Post today. Apparently, earlier this week he had lunch with a Truman State alumnus, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson. Hodge was none too impressed with the Secretary, as this post shows.

An excerpt:

I asked the Secretary what was his favorite part of his job. I expected a canned answer about “bettering people’s lives,” but instead, Secretary Jackson said that his favorite part of the job was “going to Camp David.” I laughed awkwardly and asked what else he liked about being Secretary. He then said, “Flying on Air Force One – you can order anything on that plane!” He wasn’t kidding. Jackson never spoke about impacting people’s lives and making America a better place to live.

Who is Sam Hodge, as we’re sure many of you are probably asking? Until this post, we only knew of the young Mr. Hodge through a comment he left on MOPNS last month regarding a post we wrote on Congressman Russ Carnahan. Following in the liberal and elitist tradition of his Democratic elders, Hodge criticized our post in the usual condescending way most liberals do when they deem someone’s intelligence beneath theirs:

“You’re most recent blog post about Russ Carnahan is woefully unintelligent.” Hodge goes on to say: “Acknowledging the historical roots and documenting the evolution of thought, values and ideals of a political party is an exercise of political intelligence.”

Mr. Hodge continues in his critique to exhibit his vastly superior intelligence and knowledge by informing us that the Democratic Party is “neither the party of Jefferson Davis or George Jefferson. We’re the party of FDR, Johnson and Clinton.” George Jefferson huh? You would think that a student attending a university named after our 33rd president would have fit ‘Ol Harry in there somewhere between FDR and Clinton And what about JFK? Oh never mind, Kennedy cut taxes and stared down the former Soviet Union. The modern day Democratic Party is definitely not for lowering taxes and providing a strong national defense.

In conclusion Mr. Hodge, most people will understand that Secretary Jackson was probably only trying to lighten the atmosphere with visiting students who attend his alma mater. I’m sure he would have been a lot less candid with you if he knew you were planning to do hit piece on him in the Huffington Post. Maybe you should try and adhere to the advice you offered to us last month:

“Perhaps you should spend more time writing about the problems facing everyday Missourians and less time engaging in shallow, pointless political rhetoric.”
