“Meet Me in St. Louis” Black Conservative Convention to be Hosted by Move-On-Up.org

Move-On-Up.org, a social network of African American conservatives, will host convention to network and strategize for 2012 election season.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (April 15, 2011) – Move-On-Up.org, has announced plans for a black conservative convention, to be hosted in St. Louis at the Downtown Hilton at the Ballpark from August 12th-14th. The “Meet Me in St. Louis” Black Conservative Convention,” as it has been named, will be an event for black conservatives from across the nation to meet, network, and form strategies for conservative victory in the 2012 elections.

The convention is still in its early planning stages, but a basic format for the weekend has been laid out. Conservative organizations and groups will have the opportunity to set up exhibition booths to promote their cause or candidate and to share information. Guest speakers, issues-based sessions, and a benefit dinner will also be highlights of the convention.

“We are so excited to be hosting this event,” stated Stacy Washington, executive director of Move-on-Up.org. She continued, “The convention really will be the first of its kind for black conservatives and it is going to provide a fantastic opportunity for coalition-building and organizing to make an impact in the upcoming elections.”

Saturday the 13th will be the main day of the convention. Events on this day include a guest luncheon speaker and 5 special break-out sessions which will focus on Move-On-Up.org’s 5 key principles: renewing our economy, health care reform, securing our borders, education, and strengthening our families. Also on Saturday will be the Sherman Thompson Parker Memorial Scholarship Dinner.

Rep. Sherman Parker represented part of St. Charles County (District 12) in the Missouri House of Representatives. He was elected to the House in November 2002 and was re-elected in 2004 with 73% of the vote. At 31, Rep. Parker was the first African American elected to the legislature from St. Charles County. The dinner will honor Rep. Parker’s memory by raising money for scholarships to support black students studying political science, government or public service. “Sherman was committed to public service and giving back to the community. It always excited him when young people took an interest in politics. Hopefully, these scholarships will help continue that legacy while helping deserving students pursue their educations.” stated Move-On-Up co-founder Chris Arps.
