What! You’re not on the list Mr. Speaker Pro Tem?
Many of you have written us and asked us what do we have against Speaker Pro Tem Bearden and Fred Thompson? Absolutely nothing! The Missouri Political News Service does not and will never endorse candidates for any office. Fred Thompson – if and when he enters the race – will make a fine candidate and will certainly add significantly to the Republican mix.
Mr. Bearden is a fine public servant – who we feel is a little too risk averse – for not challenging Majority Leader Tom Dempsey for the soon to be vacant Senate seat in the 23rd district. Where is the risk in jumping (albeit early) on the Fred Thompson bandwagon? Maybe an appointment or position in a future Thompson presidency? Sorry to have to break the news to you Mr. Speaker Pro Tem, but as a state legislator, there are going to be a lot more people higher in the pecking order than you when it comes time for Thompson to dole out favors after a successful nomination or presidential run. As Mark Twain once wrote: ”
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.”
UPDATE:
Sources have told MOPNS that Speaker Pro Tem Bearden will be resigning and joining the conservative Show Me Institute think tank. Bearden’s rumored salary is said to be $150K.
