We’ll go into the similarities after this excerpt from Post Dispatch political reporter Jake Wagman’s piece:
On paper, Gov. Jay Nixon and Mayor Francis Slay seem like an easy match. The two lawyers are centrist Democrats born just a year apart. Each charted a methodical path through the ranks of government — Nixon kicked off his career as a state senator, Slay as a city alderman.
But similarity has not warmed an icy relationship….The split appears rooted in geography as much as politics, and reflects a wider chasm between the governor’s office and local Democrats. Read more…
