The Carnahans: Tax Cheats and Resume Fudgers

May 4th, 2010 by mopns · No Comments

How ironic! While Congressman Carnahan is embroiled in a mini scandal involving the docking of his yacht in Illinois to avoid paying St. Louis City personal property taxes, tax cheat Carnahan will be receiving an award Friday from the St. Genevieve Chamber of Commerce for a $500,000 earmark he secured in Bourbon, Mo for a new—–port!

Carnahan press release:

“I am humbled to receive this award, but thrilled that it is in recognition for this port project. It is one of the things I am most proud of in my career, because the economic benefits will be felt for many generations to come.”

In 2008, Carnahan helped secure $500,000 in federal funding to help kick-start the project. Since then, he has worked to secure additional funds, including $1 million in Recovery Act funds for loading dock improvements and site development. Read more…

Meanwhile, his sister Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, has her own little controversy going on regarding her job resume.

MOGOP release:

According to the St Louis Post-Dispatch, Carnahan objected to being labeled a bank executive, despite the fact that Carnahan herself has used the title to boost her resume and advance her political career.  Now, Carnahan is claiming that she was simply an assistant to the chairman.

But years of documentation counter Carnahan’s newfound modesty.

-The 2005-2006 Missouri Blue Book, which Robin Carnahan published, notes that Carnahan served as an executive at the Export-Import Bank of the United States.

-The 2007-2008 Missouri Blue Book notes that Carnahan again notes that Carnahan served as an executive at the Export-Import Bank of the United States.

-As recently as 2008, Carnahan’s official website noted that she served as an executive at the Export-Import Bank of the United States. (h/t 24thstate.com)

But Carnahan must have decided that being an executive at a government bank that has been described as an entrenched corporate-welfare program for the country’s largest multinational corporations would undermine her campaign, so she rewrote her biography and omitted any reference to her work as a high-level executive.

Democrats don’t know how to tell the truth. It amazes me that people still vote for these liars.

Is there anything false in her resume? Job applicants change the emphasis of their resumes for very well understood reasons.

What’s wrong with Congressman Carnahan bringing in 150 construction jobs and 75 jobs to St. Gen when the construction is finished? You republican’s need to get over it. And if you want to talk lies, let’s talk Palin, Beck, Hannity and Rush. Oh, let’s not forget Fox News.
