The auto industry, beefing up its lobbying ranks, tapped former Sen. Jim Talent to speak out against pending fuel economy legislation.
The Missouri Republican narrowly lost his re-election battle last year to Democrat Claire McCaskill, helping to give the Democrats a slim Senate majority. Talent, now co-chairman of communications firm Fleishman-Hillard’s government-relations practice, is aiding the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, the chief lobbying group that represents Detroit’s Big Three auto makers and Toyota Motor Corp. of Japan, among others.
