Dempsey Kicks Off Campaign for State Senate
House Majority Leader stresses legislative experience, community roots, and shared values in announcement
(St. Charles) – House Majority Leader Tom Dempsey (R-18) today was joined by more than 225 supporters as he announced his plans to help build an even stronger St. Charles County as the area’s next Missouri State Senator.
“Our county has been fortunate to have had influential leaders like Chuck Gross and Steve Ehlmann represent our community in the Missouri State Senate. I plan to build on their successes and continue to improve quality of life for local families while moving St. Charles forward.” said Dempsey.
Dempsey explained that his campaign will focus on continued efforts to ensure every St. Charles County student receives a high quality public education, citizens have access to affordable health care, and state policies assist businesses in creating family-supporting jobs.
“Four years ago, when I was elected House Majority Floor Leader, our state faced dire financial and economic circumstances. The state operating budget was 1.1 billion dollars in the red, public education funds were being withheld to cover for shortfalls in cash flow, and Missouri was losing more jobs than any other state in the country. Today, our State revenues are on the rise, we have increased education funding by over 500 million dollars, and Missouri businesses have created 93,000 new, family-supporting jobs. Our responsible fiscal policies are continuing to pay off.” Dempsey said.
Dempsey added that he plans to build on his record of accomplishment for St. Charles County that he achieved in the House of Representatives.. In his past four years in the legislature, Dempsey worked with fellow legislators to enact meaningful tort reform to end frivolous lawsuits, balanced a budget without job-killing tax increases, provided tax relief to seniors, and passed Jessica’s law to protect children from sexual predators. Dempsey told his supporters that in the coming years, we all must continue to focus our efforts on protecting families from those who prey upon children and seniors. He added, “As criminals get smarter, we must remain diligent and work proactively to defend the most vulnerable and innocent among us.”
In his closing remarks, Dempsey shared his future intentions, “As your next state senator I will work to ensure our roads continue to improve, children are protected from predators, and that state policies provide opportunities for businesses to grow and create family supporting jobs.”
A third generation small restaurant owner, Tom Dempsey and his wife Molly, have three children: Meaghan, Abby, and Jack. Rep. Tom Dempsey was first elected to the Missouri House of Representatives from the 18th District in November 2000 and has served as the House Majority Floor Leader since January 2005. The 23rd Senatorial District Seat became vacant when Senator Chuck Gross was announced as the new St. Charles County Administrator. Under the Missouri Constitution, a special election is held when there is a vacancy. This special election is anticipated to be called in the next few months.
