Congratulations Director Martinez!

We congratulate Ms Martinez on her confirmation as head of the Department of Economic Development. Her support for “open borders” as an attorney in the private sector, and her apparent flip flop on enforcing Missouri laws is very troubling to us. We hope that Ms. Martinez’s open border advocacy doesn’t color her decisions when it comes to creating jobs and awarding tax credits to companies that only hire Americans.

This sobering St. Louis NAACP assessment of the rampant unemployment among inner city youths, is why were very concerned about having an open borders advocate heading this important agency.

“By 1999 St. Louis’s commitment to its youth and unemployed had all but faded; Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) began to emerge as a dominant development tool within the City of St. Louis; First Source Provisions contained within the city’s Equal Employment Opportunity & Nondiscrimination Guidelines for TIF Related Redevelopment Agreements were in flux and inconsistent.St. Louis’s First Source Jobs Policy continued its slow death; by 2002 through the present, the city’s First Source Jobs Policy became, and remains voluntary for TIF related developments while unemployment for the city’s youth and poor continued to grow.

Over 36 percent of St. Louis’s inner-city residents are living below the poverty line, the unemployment rate for the inner-city exceeds 6.3 percent.  Read more…
