We are planning to have more in depth reporting on Caroline Hoxby on our website and her problems in the educational community. Her research is a bit skewed in a few areas and has been called into question by several national educational groups.
Charter schools won’t be able to do “whatever works” with the advent of common core standards. They will be teaching the same standards and using the same assessments as traditional public schools. You can thank the MO State Board of Education for that vote and the MO Legislature for not addressing the issue of common core standards in this current session.
If you think TEACHERS are the problem in education today, you will love the charter school fix. If the you think education is failing because of multi-layered issues (culture, teachers, federal mandates, etc), then charters are not the magical potion promised by its supporters.
Charters will provide the same education as traditional public schools: it’s just in a different building with different players.
