State employee enjoying some wine at Summit Lake Winery while driving a state vehicle
Doug Nelson, the deputy chief of staff to Gov. Jay Nixon, told senators in March how Gov. Nixon is trying to reduce costs from the overuse of the state’s vehicle fleet and by downsizing the overall “physical plant”of the state:
In all, there are more than 11,000 vehicles in the state fleet, Nelson said, and those vehicles put on 183 million miles last year. Nelson said that just by cutting those miles by 10 percent, the state can save $2.1 million. The state is considering reducing the mileage reimbursement and using technology to have meetings on the Internet as one method of cutting back on miles.
“We need to get more like business,” Nelson told Sen. Jim Lembke, R-Mehlville. Read more…

The “picture of the day” with various state cars at Jefferson City area businessess with polarizing comments assuming state employees are misusing state vehicles is simply poor reporting and unfair. Maybe too, with type of incomplete and inaccurate reporting, the contributor might aspire to be a Fox reporter. Get your act cleaned up and find out the rest of the story.

They need to use their own vehicles for personal errands.
Nobody should be happy that they are using our tax money to pay for their personal use of vehicles.
