The Post Dispatch has an unusual Cardinal baseball opening day story today. Instead of the focus being on all the pomp and circumstance that’s usually involved with opening day, Jake Wagman’s article focuses on the easy availability of free tickets for people with “honorable” in front of their names. St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley strong appetite for ticket freebies is featured prominently in the piece:
St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley has accepted $2,051 in free baseball tickets since 2007, more than any other local elected official. By comparison, lobbyists have bought Mayor Francis Slay $340 in Cardinals tickets during the same period.
Dooley’s total includes a $40 ticket Ameren bought for his wife; $484 in tickets from Sinquefield’s lobbyist to a Cardinals-Cubs game; and $780 from Anheuser-Busch for three tickets to the All-Star Game.
“When his schedule permits, he will accept invitations that he feels are consistent with representing St. Louis County and the interests of his constituents,” Dooley spokesman Mac Scott said.
Scott said the tickets to the All-Star Game were necessary so the county executive could meet with President Barack Obama, who threw out the first pitch.
But why did Dooley need three tickets?
So his wife and daughter could attend as well, Scott said. Read more…

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is magnificent blog. An excellent read. I’ll definitely be back.
