Yesterday, we asked if Robin Carnahan supported a public option. Big hat tip to an alert reader who informed us that stealth candidate Robin Carnahan is on record supporting the so called public option in the Democrats increasingly unpopular health care bill.
St. Louis Beacon:
Posted 1:40 p.m. Wed., Nov. 11: Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan reaffirmed her support Wednesday for some sort of a public option when it comes to health-care coverage.
“I’m less concerned about what we call it, than what it does,” said Carnahan during a brief interview after she and her brother, U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan, participated in a Veterans Day ceremony in the military chapel at Jefferson Barracks.
She avoided taking a direct up-or-down stance on the “Stupak amendment” in the House bill, which bars any private insurance coverage of abortion services — except in cases of rape, incest and to save the life of the mother — in policies that are purchased with federal subsidies that would be available to low- and middle-income women and their families. It also bars any public insurance coverage of abortion.
Carnahan said the debate before Congress “is not about abortion. … I don’t think we ought to be distracted about what this about.”
