For those of you following the news about casinos in our state, you probably know that Pinnacle Gaming has been the subject of some controversy regarding one of their casino boats – The President – which has been deemed unsafe and could result in them losing the license and having it given to a different company. They have been doing everything possible to keep the license for their run-down boat, including threatening government officials.
Missouri Gaming Commission Chairman Jim Mathewson
You read that right – they have started threatening people in a last-ditch attempt to keep their hands on a casino license. Dan Lee, President of Pinnacle flew into St. Louis County from Las Vegas with his entourage and proceeded to pay a visit to a Democrat member of the St. Louis County Council. He attempted to make the council member an offer they couldn’t refuse, but his Mafioso tactics have landed him in hot water. A Democratic State Senator from the area has called for an investigation into Lee’s alleged threat, and Chairman Jim Mathewson, a Nixon appointee, must decide if he will look into it.
Unfortunately, the investigation could be stopped before it even starts. Why, you ask? Pinnacle was a big-money donor to Nixon’s Missouri Democratic Party. Pinnacle Entertainment gave a total $35,000 to Nixon’s Missouri Democratic State Committee during 2008 and 2009. Undoubtedly, Nixon wants more money from them, but it will be impossible to take any more if this investigation does not go away. Will Nixon muzzle Mathewson? It seems likely.
