As we first reported, multi-state Alternative Opportunities has been telling people in St. Louis that they will be awarded 17 fee offices by Governor Jay Nixon, a Democrat.
They were supposed to be awarded the Deer Creek office this week, but no offices were announced. Instead, Nixon put out a release praising the system for being “transparent” and operating on “open competition,” no doubt trying to distract from the questionable nature of the Alternative Opportunities awards by attempting to put off any further awards until the story dies down or until his administration can figure out a way to spin it in their favor.
If the bidding process is rigged with “code words” in order to ensure preferential treatment, as these bids show it clearly is, then the process is corrupt. It is obvious that Nixon hasn’t taken patronage out of the process – he’s just covered it up and given it a new name.
With the FBI reportedly looking into public corruption of Missouri Democrats, Jay Nixon and his cronies should be cautious.
Next week we will report more on Alternative Opportunities and their shady finances. Stay tuned.
