As Obama Heads South, McCaskill Moves Right

August 13th, 2009 by MarkTwain · No Comments

Has anyone else noticed that as President Obama’s approval ratings continue to tank, Sen. McCaskill seems to be moving more and more towards ‘the middle?’ This what she said last night on O’Reilly regarding angry constituents:

“I think it’s been a mistake for anyone to say this has been a manufactured effort on the part of many of these folks shouting out,” McCaskill said. ‘This is real. It’s grass roots. Now they’re organizing, but that’s what we do in America. People do it on the left. People do it on the right. Most of the people frankly in the middle don’t and that’s where I’m trying to stay focused.”

And this is what Claire had to say in the Politico yesterday when asked if she agreed with an African American Congressman who claimed angry constituents were racists:

“I think that is irresponsible to say. There may be individual instances of that but there are a whole lot of people who are frustrated … but I’m not sure if it would be accurate to make that about race.”

On government funding of abortions in the proposed health care bill:

LifeNews.com: “If this is correct – that Sen. McCaskill said she would never vote for a bill that forces Americans to pay for abortions – it would represent a complete reversal of her life-long political position in support of tax-funded abortion.”

Claire has a long way to go to make it to the middle but at least she is showing some true leadership by speaking out against the government media BS. She has always been pretty good a speaking as a centrist and soemtimes even on the conservative side, but her votes are party line progressive so far. Her vote on the Clunker extension was a positive sign but I just wonder if she drew the long straw at the caucus meeting and they let her vote with popular opinion. Watch the votes, don’t listen to the words.
