Since her election in 2006, Claire has been straddling the fence between her natural inclination of being a tax and spend liberal like her buddy President Obama, and the prudent, fiscal moderate she tries to portray to the constituents back home. Yesterday, we saw the real Claire when she voted with the other liberals in the Senate to deny law abiding citizens their gun rights, saying it would “[be] a foot in the door that would require, for example, the laws in Vermont on gay marriage to be enforced in Missouri.” Oh give us a break Claire!

If this is not bad enough, fake Claire is now concerned about “fake news.” As Americans first, and bloggers second, the hair on the back of our necks stood up when we hear a member of Congress making a judgement on the legitimacy of news. This especially disturbs us when the Federal Trade Commission is due to issue “blogger guidelines” by the end of the year:

“The Federal Trade Commission has been considering a controversial update to testimonial guidelines that would require bloggers and other online commenters to disclose any connections they have to marketers. If the FTC goes through with the proposal, bloggers would have to reveal when they’re paid per post by a marketer. But they would also have to disclose when they’ve received free review copies — even though newspapers, magazines and other mainstream media aren’t subject to similar requirements.” Read more…
