“Jay Nixon has never stood up for black people. He’s never done anything positive. He’s always been a coward.” – St. Louis Alderman Charles “Quincy” Troupe
“That’s, unfortunately, Jay’s legacy.” –Former Senate Minority Leader Maida Coleman
The Missouri Political News Service is starting to hear rumblings among leaders within the African American community regarding Governor Nixon’s ardent support for the nomination of Linda Martinez to be the next head of the Department of Economic Development. Because of respect for freshman Senator Robin Wright Jones – who introduced Martinez to the senate – the criticism so far has been kept to a slow murmur.
Below are excerpts from three seperate emails we received yesterday regarding this troubled nomination:
“With unemployment in my district and in our communities probably double the state and national averages, how do I tell my constituents that their governor wants to appoint someone who believes in “open borders” to create jobs for them?”
“Nixon, who has enjoyed – at best -luke warm support among African Americans over the years, must believe that this expenditure of political capital is worth it. I hope he’s right in the long run.”
“I usually disagree with this blog 100%, but on this one, you’ve got it 100% right! Please don’t stop what you’re doing.”
A vote is scheduled today on her nomination.

Hispanic Community feels the reaction by some of the Black Leadership will set us back in the relationship between the Afro-American Community and the new and energetic Hispanic Leadership. Nixon appointment is right on, to say that Governor Nixon candidate advocates for illegal labor immigration is not a true statement furthermore it has no valid foundation. We had worked arduously with the Black community trying to bring a new day a new unified relationship, Ms Martinez had fought for the rights of US citizens of all ethnic classes, religions and origins, I say to the skeptics, today is a new day, look at her qualifications and to her experience, I am looking forward to the day that we select a candidate based on who is the best qualified not the race. Gov Nixon tap on the shoulder to Ms. Martinez, and i say Kudos Mr. Governor.
