Jay Nixon has been at it again.  Earlier, he stretched the truth by stating to the Columbia Tribune that his salaries were only up a bit – 3% — while at the same time giving the pink slip to hundreds of Missouri employees.

For the six senior staff members who worked for the state this past year, the Official Manual reports that their combined salary was $408,000.  The pay in their new positions is reported at $550,000.  Jay Nixon’s election meant these staffers will be able to live much better – 35% better – while many other Missourians are being forced to tighten their belts.

Even worse is how his spokesman attempted to show that these salaries were similar to those paid by the previous administration.  Unfortunately, in what is appearing to become a trend within the Nixon administration, he failed to tell of the enormous pay raises that these staffers would be receiving at the expense of 1,300 other state employees.

Wouldn’t it be nice if Nixon would do the right thing and ask that his staff forego their massive pay increases and allow a few state employees to keep their job or receive a modest salary increase?

Six of Nixon’s top employees will earn up to a whopping three hundred forty three percent (343%) more than they received from the state in the past year.  It would have been hard for Jay to justify how his top administrative salaries the exorbitant increases he gave his own staff over the previous administration but it is impossible for him to explain why these employees deserve a thirty five percent (35%) raise over what they were earning a few weeks ago!

The message to Missourians – work harder so we can live better – MUCH better.

POSITIONS NIXON EXCESSIVELY FUNDED IN ORDER TO TERMINATE OTHER STATE EMPLOYEES:

• The position of Deputy Chief of Staff will see a pay increase of fifty six (56%) from his job in the Attorney General’s office.

• The position of Director of Constituent Services will see a pay increase of nine percent (9%) from her job in the Attorney General’s office.
  

• The position of Deputy General Counsel will see a pay increase of twenty percent (20%) from her job in the Attorney General’s office.

• The position of General Counsel will see a pay increase of eleven percent (11%) from his job in the Attorney General’s office.
  

• The position of Chief of Staff will see a pay increase of eleven percent (11%) from his job in the Attorney General’s office.

• The position of Policy Director will see a pay increase of three hundred forty three percent (343%) from his job as a State Representative.
