State Representative Rebecca McClanahan is claiming in a press release that voters in District 2 in Northeast Missouri have been receiving “dishonest mailers” from the National Rifle Association’s Political Victory Fund. McClanahan is in a tight race with her Republican opponent, Thom Van Vleck.
From the release:
“These orange postcards, sent from Virginia, claim that the challenger, Mr. Van Vleck, is the current state representative, and that he has voted for and even sponsored gun-friendly legislation. Every word of this is completely false. Rep. McClanahan, a Friend of the NRA, has a strong voting record in support of Second Amendment rights since her election in 2006.”
McClanahan voted in support of the Castle Doctrine, which protects our right to self-defense in our own homes and voted for the Range Protection Act, which protects shooting ranges from nuisance lawsuits. McClanahan also voted to support the right to own and sell guns during a community emergency.
“I am appalled at the lies on these postcards,” said McClanahan. “I’m used to people distorting my record, but I’ve never had it plagiarized before.”
Bill Hubbard, the owner of the Milan gun shop and a lifelong NRA member said, “This postcard is a dirty attempt to mislead voters and I am ashamed that my dues are being spent to spread lies. McClanahan is the one who has stood up for us, not this other guy.”

It is about time that the citizens of Missouri know that the NRA and the Farm Bureau are simply arms of the Republican party. They don’t care what you do as long as you have the ‘R’ after your name.

I received the same mailer against a democrat candidate in Northwest Missouri.
If you are a democrat and a sportsman, you should drop your NRA membership and support a local hunters or bowhunters association
