Senator McCaskill has garnered a rather unflattering nickname from her Republican critics. It may be warranted. It seems scoring political points against your fellow Missouri Senate colleague is more pressing these days.
JEFFERSON CITY _ Despite her crass and misleading comments today to The Kansas City Star, Claire McCaskill has not complied with a Missouri Republican Party open records request made more than two weeks ago seeking office emails sent and received by her office since she became a U.S. Senator in January, 2007 and emails from her last 60 days as state auditor.
The Star today reports that “McCaskill said she was complying” with the MRP request and then, in a classless display for a U.S. Senator, claimed that the open records request “makes them look stupid.”
“Claire McCaskill obviously prefers to use crass language to attack our rights as citizens to request public documents from a public official. This is the first time in more than two weeks that McCaskill acknowledged receiving our request so obviously it’s more important to her to use the media to launch political attacks rather than show some common courtesy and formally reply to our letter,” said Paul Sloca, communications director for the Missouri Republican Party. “As for her crass comments, we believe Forrest Gump said it best: ‘Stupid is as stupid does.’”
“Claire McCaskill is all talk but no action. But now that she’s on the record claiming she is complying with our request, we expect her to comply,” Sloca said.
