Representative Tom Dempsey declared victory last inght in his campaign for State Senate. Dempsey was elected with 56.2% of the vote. Citizens of St. Charles elected Dempsey to serve the remainder of former Senator Chuck Gross’ term, which goes through January 2009. In this race, Dempsey defeated Democrat candidate Ed Applebaum.
“I appreciate the bi-partisan support I received throughout this campaign, and I am honored to represent the citizens of St. Charles County in the Missouri Senate,” stated Tom Dempsey. “My goals for the Senate include supporting tough immigration laws that will hold businesses that employ illegal immigrants accountable and will require state-funded universities to verify students are here legally. I also intend to work to enact legislation that will protect families from internet predators and provide property tax relief,” continued Dempsey.
“Voters endorsed Dempsey’s positive record of creating family-supporting jobs, working to pump more than $500 million new dollars into classrooms and efforts to make health care more affordable,” stated James Harris, campaign advisor.
“I am pleased to have a great friend replacing me in the Missouri Senate and am confident he will hit the ground running,” added Chuck Gross, former State Senator.
“Tom’s victory shows that voters believe in the Republican agenda of putting the brakes on runaway government spending and enacting pro-job policies that have created more than 90,000 family-supporting jobs,” observed Jon Bennett, chair of the St. Charles County Republican Central Committee
Senator-Elect Dempsey will assume his new post pending official certification from the Secretary of State. With Dempsey’s victory, the current breakdown in the Missouri Senate is 20 Republicans and 14 Democrats.
