The volunteers of the Stanberry Rural Fire District will be getting some much-needed new equipment after receiving a $40,508 FEMA-sponsored grant from the Department of Homeland Security.
J. L. Edson, Jr., the chief of the Stanberry Rural Fire District, said the money will go a long way in helping the all-volunteer fire brigade upgrade some of their equipment with the purchase of new pagers, handheld radios, a new computer, four new SCBA breathing apparatuses and a Jaws of Life unit.
“We were really shocked,” Edson said. “It was a big plus for us.”
Congressman Sam Graves, a former volunteer firefighter, said the grant money is a welcome boon to rural firefighters and the jobs they do.
“We must invest in our firefighters’ safety and effectiveness,” Graves said. “Firefighters are trained to handle a wide range of situations and this grant provides the needed investment to help them meet the challenge.” Read more…
