By Sen. Claire McCaskillFirst of all, Sen. Jim Webb’s (D-Va.) amendment (S. 2001) is great, we need to pass it. Second of all, I hope we can hope get out of this bad habit that we’re getting in. If Missouri had to get to 60 percent to elect someone, I don’t think Missouri would get a senator. So I’m totally uncomfortable with the idea that we have to get to 60 votes on the amendments on the Defense Authorization Bill because the Republicans are saying they are going to filibuster. I wonder when the obstructionism is going to stop. When are the American people going to say, “Wait a minute, this is the Defense Authorization. Why are threatening to filibuster the entire Defense Authorization?” For a lot of us, particularly freshman, that is particularly frustrating at this point.
