Bond says Senate Appropriation Committee approved $400,000 for Carver Monument
DIAMOND, Mo. — George Washington Carver National Monument will open its new Discovery & Visitor Center today.
The 18,000-square-foot building connects to the existing 3,300-square-foot visitors center, which also has been renovated as part of the project.
Features of the new center include a revamped bookstore and front entrance, a multipurpose room with exhibits on Carver’s humanitarian work, and an enclosed bee room that can be accessed from the outside by bees. An outdoor balcony will afford visitors a view of the surrounding prairie
Last week, U.S. Sen. Christopher “Kit” Bond said that a bill containing $400,000 in federal funding for the Carver monument has been approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee.
