As Jay Nixon heads to St. Louis Saturday to kiss the rings of Democrat leaders Tim Person and Elbert Walton, (No repeat of 1998 here) ‘Ol Jay should be watching his left flank while he’s out of town. Someone writing under the moniker – anyonebutnixon on Missouri Politics blog – is not very enthusiastic about the presumptive nominee’s candidacy.
“Over the last few days, I have been contemplating the right thing to do. I am a lifelong democrat. I vote for democrats 98% percent of the time. The only time I don’t is if they are not on the ticket. I do not, and will not for republicans. I am a yellow dog democrat. I have volunteered and contributed to dozens of campaign throughout my life, including all of Jay Nixon’s campaigns.
I gave money to Jay when he first ran for State Senate in 1986. I believed in Jay. I was with Jay in 1988 when he lost to Danforth, 1992 when he beat David Steelman and, 1996 when he beat Bredemeier, 1998 when he lost to Bond, 2000 when he beat Jones, and 2004 when he beat Byrd. I remember his stump speech in the Bond race: “I couldn’t sleep the other evening. I got up in the middle of the night and turned on C-Span. There was Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond debating term limits.” HAR HAR HAR. MOPOLITCS-I cannot support Jay Nixon for Governor.” Read more…
