Lavish inaugurations….Quarter of a million dollar chiefs of staff?. What’s next?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Mayor Mark Funkhouser’s top assistant will make nearly $250,000 a year.

Funkhouser hired Ed Wolf as his chief of staff at a salary of $140,000.

Wolf had worked as the head of the Public Works Department for 36 years; he took early retirement in 2003.

His pension is $109,000, which comes to a total of $249,000 a year as chief of staff.

There is a city rule that a person cannot return to work for City Hall within five years after taking early retirement, but the previous City Council made an exception for Wolf so Funkhouser could hire him before his five-year hiatus restriction was up.  Read more…
