Democratic Senator Jolie Justus of Kansas City has come up with the “progressive” idea to make it easier for their unmotivated base to register and vote. Senator Justus proposes to have the state revenue department send voter registration cards out with all vehicle license renewals.
The Missouri Political News Service is frankly surprised this idea has taken so long to be proposed, especially since “Motor Voter” was signed into law by President Clinton in 1995. It seems to be the next logical step; register to vote when you renew your licence, now register to vote when you receive your renewal notice. Why stop there? Why not have revenue employees come to you? The state can afford it, it did recently report a budget surplus.
Justus’ idea comes on the heels of the rancorous debate and passage last year of a bill that required voters to present ID’s to vote. The Missouri Supreme Court later ruled the measure unconstitutional. Listen to Jolie Justus’ comment (Missourinet audio)
