Cape Girardeau’s new $60 million federal courthouse won praise from U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson on Friday after she and other federal officials toured the nearly completed building.”This is a magnificent structure,” she said. “I think it is a great honor to have a courthouse of this magnitude.”
The four-story, 154,000-square-foot building includes a view of the Mississippi River and the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge named for Emerson’s late husband. A wall of windows along a fourth-floor corridor that serves two large federal courtrooms offers a panoramic view.
Brad Scott, regional administrator for the General Services Administration — the federal agency that manages construction and operation of federal buildings — credited Emerson and U.S. Sen. Kit Bond with providing major input into the design of the building.
