JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Matt Blunt tapped a 29-year-old woman who has worked for federal executive departments and Missouri congressional lawmakers to lead the state’s agriculture agency.
Katie Smith, of Platte City, was announced today as Blunt’s choice for Director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture. She will replace Matt Boatright, who served as interim director for the department after the resignation of former director Fred Ferrell.
Smith — who moved back to the state several weeks ago from Washington, D.C. — most recently served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department of Energy’s Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs. She was a special assistant for Bill Hawks, who served as Agriculture Undersecretary for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and also worked with agriculture issues for former Sen. Jim Talent, R-Missouri, Rep. Sam Graves, R-Tarkio and Sen. Kit Bond, R-Missouri. Read more…
