Last week, when minority set asides were removed from a $1.2 Billion dollar bond proposal, the below email was making the rounds that Sen. Nasheed was the behind the scenes culprit getting the minority language removed on behalf of Rex Sinquefield and St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay:

“So, last night I got a call sharing with me that Senator Jamilah Nasheed is the main culprit behind taking the MWBE section out of this bill. She is using it as a tool to pass legislation for Rex Sinquefield her donor here in St. Louis for his gain. For the record…. multiple times we have reached out to Senator Nasheed and she has shown no interest in working the Democratic Caucus to focus on our needs as MWBE’s.

We have had the main support on the Disparity Study from Senators on the other side of the state, and Senator Joe Keaveny of St. Louis. To date, the Disparity Study is back in the budget in the House, and thanks to the Senators above it will remain in the Senate. 10% and 5% of this bond is some nice opportunity for most of us in our own backyard. Please send an email or a call to Senator Nasheed. She and others are doing this not knowing that we are aware they are not supporting us. This, at a time we are struggling in this economy…we can’t get fed our normal crumbs because of actions like these.”Similar Posts:

As a battle-tested civil & human rights activist, I want to commend Lewis Reed, president of the St. Louis Board of Alderman, for becoming a candidate for mayor. It was a courageous attempt to rescue the City of St. Louis from the incompetent and racist grip of Francis G. Slay. That was a noble cause. It was achievable, but!

The large black North St. Louis voter turn out last August 7, 2012, has proven to be a FLUKE. Many of us— including myself— were hoping that the voter turnout was the beginning of a black voter consciousness that St. Louis hasn’t seen and that it would be consistent. Instead, it appears that this particular St. Louis voter pattern will continue to function in a schizophrenic mode, one that is unpredictable.

I said in an earlier St. Louis American Commentary that Reed deserved the same passionate voter turnout on March 5, 2013 as had Congressman Lacy Clay last August. I added “If the upcoming voter turnout is a good or better than last August, it will prove that the progressive ground game was no fluke and Reed will become the new mayor of St. Louis. ” It must be noted here that the twelve (12) original black lead wards did vote Slay out of office by 1,567 votes in comparison to the 12 white lead wards that had similar small voter turnout.

Although about half of the black alderpersons, personally, were encouraged to support Slay, either because of intimidation or money, their fair-minded constituents still voted for Reed. However, Reed’s victory in these wards was NOT large enough to over come the strong white Republican-like voter turnout in four wards, which was the 12 th, 13t, 16th and 23rd. These wards turned out an averaged of 30.6% of their registered voters. The voters in one white lead ward, the 20 th Ward, supported Reed although its alderperson supported Slay. No white alderpersons supported Reed. The number of black lead wards was reduced from twelve (12) to eleven (11). This decrease was a result of the 6th Ward’s vacancy now
filled by a white person. Of 28 alderpersons, only 11 are African American, in a city that has a majority black population. This, too, has to be changed.

A voter turn-out of at least 50% of the African-Americans registered voters along with our white progressive voters in St. Louis would go a long way in solving most of the problems in St. Louis. Had this mandate been in place prior to March 5th, Reed would be mayor today. He would be about the business of developing all 27 wards as he had done for his 6th Ward, as an alderman. Or Irene Smith would have been reelected for her second or third term. Either way, St. Louis would be alive and growing. Reed not only has the vision but has the energy and know-how in getting things done as been exemplified by his performance in the 6th Ward. Although close, he didn’t win his ward.

St. Louisans would be fooling themselves if they think race doesn’t matter. Slay and his Chief of Staff Jeff Rainford have always played the race card because racism has been very profitable for them. They have managed to stay in office for 12 years by intimidating fair minded white politicians from supporting black candidates. With a sizeable campaign chest and Rex Sinquefield and Paul McKee, two available wealthy republican supporters, Slay is in a position to buy personal favors from unscrupulous black political and religious leaders. Slay only supported Lacy Clay against Russ Carnahan during the last congressional primary as a way to put him in a racist political trick bag. Now Clay is forced into a position to have to do a “Stepin Fetchit” or “Cooning,” via Samuel L. Jackson in Django Unchained as payback to Slay.

Another good example of how Slay uses the race card is Charles Bryson, a black assistant of his. He promotes Bryson to a position for the sole purpose of terminating Fire Chief Sherman George, the first black fire chief in St. Louis . Then he instructs Bryson to promote a white battalion chief to replace George as chief, by passing over a well-qualified black Deputy Fire Chief Charles Coyle. Coyle filed and won his law suit of race discrimination but he did not get the chiefs position. Obviously these acts of racism conducted by Slay against the St. Louis community and particularly the black community
DID NOT matter enough to Congressman Lacy Clay. Throughout the campaign Clay said “Slay is a good man,” In essence, Clay viewed Slay’s endorsement of him having more value than the black voter’s concerns from North St. Louis. They wanted Reed in and Slay out Clay wanted Slay in and to hell with what the black voters wanted!

If African-Americans are not careful, we will either vote ourselves back into slavery out of ignorance or by misinformation from sell-out leaders. Or, this will happen by allowing others to do it— by us NOT voting our capacity. It is not a matter of blacks not voting their interest. The problem is LOW voter turnout. After such a long struggle for blacks to gain the rights to vote, you would think it would be in our DNA to vote religiously. We should be the one group of all others who were denied the right to vote to actually vote with conviction 75% of our registration or capacity. Further, one would think that parents, teaching their children to exercise this precious right to vote, would be as common as teaching them to say their prayers at night before going to bed.

After 12 years of documented sins that Slay has committed against the black community how could Congressman Lacy Clay, a black man, be justified in saying “Slay is a good man.” This is sinful and requires serious attention!

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is sick of hearing about the super-scary Missouri program that sends citizens’ personal information to another super-scary federal database. He’s so sick of it, in fact, that he cracked just a little bit on Wednesday during a press conference. The bogus claims about the Department of Revenue scanning documents and shipping them off to the federal government started with a guy in Stoddard County, who’s trying to get a conceal carry license, and have built to a statewide fear-mongering advertising campaign.

After the resident saw his documents get scanned, he filed a lawsuit against the state. Here’s where it gets a little complicated. Missouri legislators passed a law (that Nixon signed in 2009) which barred the state from complying with a 2005 federal law called the REAL ID Act. Nixon said Wednesday that the state was following its own 2009 law and not helping the federal government build a database of personal information. Read more….

The University Township Republican Club will have as special guests Bill Hennessey, St Louis Tea Party Activist and blogger will be discussing what information the Missouri Department of Revenue is collecting on you and sending to Homeland security against Missouri statute.

Sherman Christopher Graves, Corporate Security Advisor for AB/Former Law Enforcement official/Conceal Carry instructor will be discussion what rights you have to protect yourself and what does conceal carry mean in Missouri.

The meeting will be Tuesday, 4/9/13, at 7pm at Centennial Commons in University City, Mo.

The University City School District has been running quite a campaign to support Proposition U, a $19.4 million bond issue proposal that will be on the April 2 ballot. In the process the school district is violating several state laws.

The school district has printed and distributed a considerable amount of material having to do with the ballot proposal: a “Fact Book,” a “Fact Sheet,” “Questions & Answers,” and an edition of the “UCity Pride” newspaper that has several pages favorable to Proposition U. These are being mailed to residents and also distributed at schools.

Also, 19,000 large, full-color postcards were printed and most were mailed to University City households. They show pictures of a poorly maintained school and issue an invitation to take open house tours at Brittany Woods Middle School and University City High School.

All the material is clearly designed to promote the passage of Proposition U and involves many thousands of dollars of expenditures. Therefore, it violates state law that prohibits spending public funds to either promote or oppose a ballot measure or candidate.

Much of the material does not say who paid for it, as the law requires, but some material does have ”Paid for by the School District of University City” on it. This makes it clear the school district is also violating the law that requires campaign finance disclosure reports to be filed. The reports must list contributions and expenditures. This is mandated in the law and affirmed by Missouri Attorney General’s Opinion No. 21-88.

When asked for copies of any such reports, the following response came from Darryl Cobb at the UCSD on March 21:

Dear Mr. Sullivan,

The School District of University City received your Sunshine Request regarding copies of Proposition U campaign financial reports filed with the St. Louis County Board of Election and/or the Missouri Ethics Commission. In accordance with RSMO Section 115.646, the District does not campaign and is therefore not subject to filing Proposition U financial reports with either entity.P lease contact me at your earliest convenience if you have additional queries.

Thanks,

Associate Superintendent for Human Resources
School District of University City

However, at Brittany Woods Middle School, which is across the street from the district’s administrative offices, the following was on the school’s signboard this week: “4/2 VOTE YES FOR PROP. U” The sign leaves no doubt where the school district stands on Proposition U and that it is campaigning for its passage. Brittany Woods is also a polling place.

Flynn Park Elementary School also has a “YES TO PROP U” yard sign on its grounds. These are being distributed by a committee supporting Proposition U. Flynn Park also has a huge sign in front thanking voters for supporting 2009′s Proposition U, a previous bond issue. These are apparently at every school in the district. The signs have had a banner added across them saying, “WHAT’S NEXT – STAY TUNED.” Perhaps they will be changed to urge yes votes for Proposition U a few days before the election.

The University City School District is providing a terrible example for its students. There is certainly no diversity of opinions allowed on Prop. U — only ONE WAY to think. In addition, the lesson given to students is that it’s acceptable to cheat, lie and trample on the law if it helps to get what you want. Students in the school district are also being shown how to go about corrupting an election.

The University City Board of Education members are: Stacy Clay (President), Linda Peoples (Vice-President), Maria Chappelle-Nadal, John Clark, Rodney Jennings, Tom Peters and Rick Salamon. The superintendent is Joylynn Pruitt.

The video, uploaded on Friday, has been making the rounds on Facebook and Twitter, mostly shared by Reed supporters — just a week before the primary election. It comes from an account called “Renegades For Reed,” and uses slightly misspelled versions of Slay’s staff.

Then, the video says the mayor is having an affair and has “carnal thoughts” about his male chief of staff — which has definitely not been a part of the official Reed campaign platform.

We feel that he does not represent the Black community’s core values on issues such as abortion. Black history should be a celebration of life and achievement, not death.

According to officials, Holden had just walked out of the Dubliner in the 1000 block of Washington when a man holding a gas can approached him and asked for gas money.

Officials said Holden then got out his money clip to give the man some cash. That’s when the suspect grabbed the money clip and ran from the scene. Read more…
