Nixon Summons Gaming Chairman to His Luxury Box

November 16th, 2009 by mopns · No Comments

Last Friday (Nov. 6th) during the Mizzou/Truman basketball game, Governor Nixon held court in his luxury box at the Mizzou Arena, where Missouri Gaming Commission Chairman Jim Mathewson was summoned to meet with him. As a reminder to those who aren’t regular readers, this happened right after we reported that some are speculating Mathewson would likely be told to back off of an investigation into the actions of the leader of Pinnacle Gaming (a company that has been a high-dollar donor to the Missouri Democratic Party), who allegedly flew into St. Louis with some of his Las Vegas thugs to threaten a St. Louis County councilman who was standing in the company’s way.

The Pinnacle leader abruptly resigned Monday morning, no doubt in an attempt to prevent an investigation. This story is getting plenty of coverage, but the real question is why was Mathewson summoned to meet with Governor Nixon on Friday? Did Nixon, who has accepted $35,000 through the Missouri Democratic Party from Pinnacle Entertainment, order Mathewson to back off?

We suggest ‘Baghdad’ Tony Messenger and ‘Pretty Boy’ David Cantanese stop drooling over Nixon and ask some necessary questions about what was going on in that luxury box.
