One Question Post Dispatch “Forgot” to Ask Dooley: “Were You Aware That Your Lobbyist Was Operating His Consulting Firm From Your Office?”

St. Louis Post Dispatch:

“He [Darin Cline] did a fine job.” Charlie Dooley

In testy tones, Dooley acknowledged the rumors but said they would not affect his work. “Let me clear about this: I have better things to do than to wonder who started all these innuendos,” Dooley said.

“They are baseless and they will not get in the way of my serving the people of St. Louis County 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

When asked if federal authorities had sought any county documents, Dooley said, “No. And listen to me: I am done talking about this.” Read more…

In another case of gross journalistic malpractice, Post Dispatch reporter Paul Hampel misses the most important aspect of this whole sordid affair involving ex inter-governmental affairs director Darin Cline. Cline, who resigned late Monday night after we exposed his double dipping ways last week, was brazenly operating a political consulting firm right underneath the nose of the County Executive!

We’ve all heard the rumors of FBI investigations (and we’ll give the county executive the benefit of the doubt when he says he hasn’t been contacted) and at this stage – they are only rumors. It is NOT a rumor that Cline was paid $10,000 last year as a consultant to Citizens for Better Transportation, the Metro ballot proposal that was intended to increase the County sales tax .5% to expand Metro service. Where are the questions about this???? Unbelievable!

I think Chuck Dooley may be getting warm due to Federal interest in St Louis County! What was that song: “The Heat Is ON…”
