Jeff Smith’s Pathetic Attempt to Get a Light Sentence

September 8th, 2009 by Samuel Clemons · 2 Comments

Monsanto spokesman John Combest with disgraced ex Sen. Jeff Smith: “Let me be the first to predict that this movie (“Can Mr. Smith Get to Washington Anymore?”) will attain cult status among the political crowd.”

Today, Jeff Smith – the former Democratic State Senator facing federal felony charges for shady campaign dealings – issued a mea culpa in the Post-Dispatch, “apologizing” to his constituents for his actions.

This is not a real apology. This is nothing more than a desperate attempt to garner good will with the court that will decide his case. He is only attempting to gain sympathy by saying that he has learned his lesson when it is quite plain he hasn’t. We fully expect that President Obama’s justice department will recommend a lighter sentence with a “downward departure” being recommended by the U.S. Attorney’s office, but we hope that the court will treat him like every other felon rather than giving him a break. Will they? Only time will tell.

I thought you guys weren’t Republicans rather issue oriented conservatives who believe VERY strongly in school choice… an issue that Sen. Smith worked tirelessly for. Yes, he screwed up and yes he will go to jail albeit a lesser sentence than a regular Joe, but I’m sure his apology was sincere.

There is a joke going around: IT’S TIME TO CHANGE THE NUMBER OF TERMS A POLITICIAN CAN SPEND IN OFFICE: ONE TERM IN OFFICE AND ONE IN JAIL! ILLINOIS DOES THIS NOW! I would not be surprised if the clown gets of light, it helps establish a precident for future Democrat politocos’ to receive light terms! The question now: What kind of sentence will they give the illegal allien now in the oval office???
