Nixon Henchman Intimidate Citizen Who Filed Sunshine Request

March 26th, 2009 by mopns · No Comments

Alarming email forwarded to us this morning:

March 26, 2009

To whom it may concern:

Attached you will find a letter from me to Governor Jay Nixon.  In that letter, I ask Governor Nixon to leave me and my friends alone.

Here is what happened: I filed a Sunshine Request with Nixon on the past Monday, March 23rd at about 10 am.  My Sunshine Request stemmed from my concern with Nixon over his MIAC “report” and over his videocamera in his office.

By 4 pm on this past Monday, members of law enforcement were showing up at my friends’ homes and asking all kinds of questions about me, about my beliefs, about my habits.  I do not think that this is a coincidence that this started right after my request.  It has continued until today – so far at least 7 friends or people I know have been visited by law enforcement.

To be clear, I am the kind of person that Nixon’s MIAC profiled:  I am a Ron Paul supporter and I have opposed the exansion of the Federal Reserve.  And I am generaly conservative. Also, I am sure you know that I am a member of the Missouri Republican Party State Committee.   It seems obvious to me that since My Sunshine Request identified my concern about Nixon’s MIAC “report” that profiled people like me that I may be targetted.

In America, a “report” like Nixon’s MIAC report should not be allowed.  Nor should my friends be hassled by cops and investigators about me and who I am.

I have retained a lawyer and spoken to my elected officials.  I will not take this kind of abuse lying down.

I am sending this to local press and public officials to try to get help in addressing this matter.

MRFL Files Complaint with Attorney General Koster (Release excerpt)

St. Louis – March 26, 2009 – Today, Missouri Roundtable for Life (MRFL) formally filed a complaint with Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster that Ms. Carnahan has violated Missouri’s Sunshine Law by requiring MRFL to pay for documents requested under a Sunshine Request on February 9, 2009, but not requiring payment from her allies, Planned Parenthood and NARAL, when they made similar Sunshine requests. This violation represents just the most recent abuse of power by Ms. Carnahan.

On Monday, March 23, 2009, MRFL, a non-profit citizens group, finally received the documents it requested from Secretary Carnahan pursuant to MRFL’s February 9th Sunshine Request. Within those documents, MRFL uncovered numerous examples of Secretary Carnahan filling Sunshine Requests from Planned Parenthood, NARAL and other for-profit companies within 24 hours of receiving the request and without charging those groups and companies any fees for the copies or the time it took to scan and email the documents requested. On the other hand, Secretary Carnahan forced MRFL to pay for the documents it requested and didn’t mail the documents until a month after the request.

This MIAC report is getting out of control. I originally thought that the negative press associated with the report would lead to its de facto nullification–I am shocked and saddened to learn that I was wrong.

Fortunately, Peter Kinder is demanding accountability for the consequences of this report (https://www.mopns.com/2009/03/26/nixon-henchman-intimidate-citizen-who-filed-sunshine-request/).

I have forwarded this to KY3 in Springfield. I was interviewed earlier this week on the report, and I bet Cantanese might be interested in this. I am also posting on my blog.

The result is that the MIAC report will just move further underground.
