Jim Talent Potential Romney VP Pick?

It’s just a little ironic for a guy who wants to change Washington: Two senators, one current and one former, have been popping up on the trail with Mitt Romney a lot lately.

However, they are former Missouri Sen. Jim Talent and New Hampshire senior Sen. Judd Gregg — a couple of not-so-flashy policy wonks who’ve garnered a fair amount of respect from Washington’s chattering class. Their participation in Romney’s campaign could offer some insight into a potential Romney administration.

As for Talent, asked specifically what place there would be for him in a Romney administration, Romney threw his head back and chuckled a bit. “I don’t have any predictions of that nature at this stage,” he said. “I can’t tell you who my VP would be, let alone who my Cabinet members would be.”

Talent serves as the campaign’s domestic policy task force adviser. In that role, he aids in debate prep, serves as a surrogate and has shown up in post-debate spin rooms for the campaign. And he heaps praise on Romney, saying that he is the first person who’s come along since Reagan who has the opportunity to be a “transformational leader.”

Talent is expanding his issues portfolio in several other ways: He offers strategic advice and consulting through Fleishman-Hillard on a host of domestic issues, and he is also a distinguished fellow at the Heritage Foundation involved in military affairs. Read more…
